How Breast Reduction Surgery Works

Assessment

Comprehensive consultation where our plastic surgeon, Dr Andrew Cheah, evaluates the patient's health, discusses goals, and plans the surgical approach.

Surgery

The patient is placed under general anaesthesia to ensure comfort throughout the procedure. Then, our surgeon makes planned incisions around the areola, extending downward and horizontally along the breast crease to remove excess breast tissue, fat, and skin.

The remaining breast tissue is lifted, and the nipple-areola complex may be repositioned for a natural look. The incisions are closed with sutures, and surgical dressings are applied.

What to Expect after Breast Reduction Surgery

Breast Reduction Surgery Recovery

Patients who are recovering from breast reduction surgery are advised to wear a supportive bra during the immediate postoperative period. In this phase, swelling and bruising are normal and will gradually subside. Patients may resume light activities within two to six weeks while avoiding strenuous exercises.

In the intermediate phase, or months two to six, scars continue to evolve and mature. Patients may use silicone sheets or creams for optimal scar healing. At six months onwards, residual swelling or irregularities improve. Patients experience the final result of the procedure.
